Vacaima

Vicaima have been supplying doors to the UK market for 25 years and have recently announced a major investment programme at their Swindon, Wiltshire site that will see further expansion through till 2014. Vicaima LTD stocks over 100,000 doors in 750 product lines, Vicaima is able to deliver quickly and efficiently to customers in the UK, supplying every tier of the construction industry, from public and private dwellings to commercial buildings.
 
Vicaima - Indústria de Madeiras e Derivados, S.A., was founded in 1959 and is currently one of the greatest European players in the interior door market. Vicaima is national leader and, besides Portugal, it has a direct presence in Spain and in United Kingdom. Vicaima exports around 80 % of its production worldwide and every day is committed to the quality of the raw materials and to the innovative design of its products.

Vicaima follows three key principles: to maintain the simplicity of the solutions, to always seek a differentiating angle and to break away from the obvious. This vision of vanguard and innovation has been supporting the evolution of the door as a commodity into a passion and art element product.

Vicaima’s philosophy is set on constant innovation, new product range creation and the refreshing of existing products. Due to the strong focus on exports, Vicaima constantly studies the adaptation of the products to the construction requirements of the various regions of the world, always conciliating functionality, security and design. Vicaima solutions are present in the hotel, housing and service markets.

Vicaima is part of the Vicaima Group, which is constituted under the holding company Vicaima Madeiras (SGPS), S.A.
 
Historic Milestones
 
1959 – establishment of “Florestal” in Vale de Cambra (Aveiro), dedicated to the trade of material for carpentry and civil construction industry

1960 – building of the first warehouse

1964 - “Florestal” takes on the designation of “Vicaima Industrial” and starts the production of plywood

1969 – beginning of door production

1974 – launching of Portaro®, a ready to fit door and frame set 

1976 - constitution of “Movelcaima”

1977 - constitution of “Madeitejo” and focus on internationalisation with exports to Belgium

1984 – the company takes on the designation of “Vicaima – Indústria de Madeiras e Derivados, Lda” and begins the production of feature doors

1985 – launching of the Performance range

1988 – direct operations in the United Kingdom with “Vicaima Ltd”

1991 - “Vicaima Puertas” is constituted for Spain and the seven distribution companies in Portugal are changed to "Vicaima – Centro Comercial de Materiais, S.A."

1992 – “Vicaima – Indústria de Madeiras e Derivados, S.A.” becomes a stock company

1993 - ISO 9001 quality management system certification by APCER.

2001 – launching of the new Exclusive door line

2003 - “Vicaima – Centro Comercial de Materiais, S.A.”, changes the social 
designation to “Globaldis – Distribuição Global de Materiais, S.A.”

2005 – ISO 14001 environmental certification by APCER, and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification

2007 – launching of Black & White 

2008 – launching of eco-friendly products

2009 – launching of Portaro Connect®
Vicaima integrates a range of companies – Vicaima Group – constituted under the holding company Vicaima Madeiras S.G.P.S.. The Group employs 1100 professionals, distributed through the companies, mainly dedicated to the transformation and distribution of timber and its derivates. 
 
The UK operation employs c60 staff with a turnover of c£20 million. The business has continued to grow and this role is part of the businesses succession planning strategy to continue to deliver improvement across sales, finance, operations, logistics and planning.
